Flintridge Dressage , May 25-27, 2007
produced an exceptionally energetic Grand Prix test but uncharacteristic mistakes
in both the one and two tempis cost him many points. Stefan Peters and Lombardi
won comfortably, with the next several horses all placing closely. Jazzman
finished sixth. Once again, however, Jazz saved his best effort for the freestyle.
He wowed the judges and the sold out dinner crowd with a double pirouette
followed by 18 expressive, straight one tempi changes, then floated from two
tempis on a circle to ones on a straight line and back to twos on a circle
without missing a step. His piaffe and passage were buoyant right down to
the final piaffe pirouette. His result was a well deserved 71%, third behind
Stefan Peter’s World Cup bronze medal horse Floriano and Stefan’s
second Grand Prix mount Lombardi. Donna couldn’t have been happier and
Jazzman expressed his pleasure with some really good leaps in the honor round.
Leah and Winnica finished qualifying for the CDS and USDF Championships at both training and first level, although not without incident. A broken hose in the wash rack near the warm-up ring caused the normally unflappable Winnica to bolt sideways and unseat Leah. Winnica ran straight back to her stall – how did she find it? – and Leah hopped back up. After a few settling moments in a different warm-up, Leah and Winnie returned to the show ring and earned a second place with a 70% score. Way to go!
