CDS Championship, Woodside, CA – October 11-14, 2007

Everyone from Fox Run qualified for the CDS Championship, but Rachel and Sunny elected not to go as she would have had to compete with the pros in the open division. Next year she will be an amateur and will be there for sure. Donna, Katy, and Leah wish that they had stayed home. Torrential rain drenched with grounds on Wedsnesday leaving no dry space to warm up. The rings were just drying when around noon the next day, the heavens opened again. Rain poured down the barn aisles, soaking stalls and tack rooms alike. The rings turned into lakes. In the opinion of many, the show should have been cancelled because of unsafe footing at that time. Donna scratched Jazzman from both the CDS and USDF Grand Prixs and Freestyles, but Katy and Leah pressed on. Slogging through fetlock deep mud, Katy and Phantom finished 5th in the CDS Amateur Futurity, 10th in the Cal Bred Futurity, and 7th out of 23 in the CDS Training Level Horse of the Year. Leah Forrest, in her first championship show (and her fifth dressage show ever) and her trusty mare Winnica finished 7th in the CDS First Level Horse of the Year. Most importantly, all horses returned home sound. Phantom was purchased as an investment horse and is now for sale. Until sold, he, Winnica, and Sunny will all move up to second level.
